Managing School Activity Funds To Mitigate Fraud

Each year, school districts across North America lose school activity funds revenue because of fraud. The financial pressures that some individuals now face because of the pandemic only increases the concerns surrounding misappropriation of funds. Districts need controls in place to mitigate the various types of fraud – such as skimming and embezzlement – and ensure financial integrity? This session will explore the steps districts should take to fraud-proof their schools, including the procedures and systems that should be in place, staff responsibilities and a fraud prevention checklist. It will also include an in-depth look at the journey that Klein Independent School District embarked upon in adopting an integrated solution that’s allowed them to safeguard close to $50 million in funds from fraud.
